People who visit Åland have the opportunity to fish with hand gear in Mariehamn City and the county's fishing license areas, permits for fishing are obtained by issuing a fishing license. Hand tools refer to throwing rod, fly rod, jig and angling. Trolling is not allowed. The fishing license does not entitle to net fishing for non-Mariehamners in the city's fishing waters. As before, people living in Mariehamn fish for free in the city's fishing waters.

In Mariehamn's fishing license area, fishing is permitted throughout the year, with the exception of Slemmern and the inner part of Svibyviken, where fishing is prohibited from icebreaking until 31 May. Ice-free winters fishing ban April 1 to May 31. Hand gear fishing from land is prohibited from 15.4 to 15.6. For information on exceptions, contact Visit Åland.

You should not fish near someone else's inhabited shore, boat dock or other people's gear.

The province's fishing license areas are nature conservation areas, for which special fishing times have been established for each area.

In order to strengthen the fish stock, the following measurements of fish must be observed in the waters of the landscape:

Pike 55-80 cm

Perch 40-60 cm, protected for catch during the period 1.6 - 30.6

Sea trout 50 cm

Perch 20 cm

A maximum of 1 fish / person / day is retained and the rest is released. For perch 10 fish / person / day.

Catching substandard fish is prohibited, substandard fish are individuals that are smaller than the statutory minimum sizes.

RECOMMENDATIONS

By showing consideration for nature and other people, the common well-being increases and the fishing trip gets its right value. Travel carefully in the vicinity of bird hills. If a flock of birds is dispersed, the young are a helpless prey for e.g. trutar. Remember to take your rubbish with you. In many places there are so-called hake and slides. Some of these still have a function and otherwise they are monuments from times gone by and should be respected.

MONITORING

The fishing in the area is monitored by the Swedish Landscape Property Agency's staff, supervisors and other supervisory authorities. Upon request, fishing licenses must be presented for these. These also have the right to remove illegal fishing gear and dispose of illegally obtained catch. Illegal fishing reported to the police.
